German Curry Wurst – vegan

We all know that cravings for something fast, spicy and savoury. You might already have all ingredients for this dish at home. If not, they are very easy to get in every grocery store.


The german Curry Wurst is typically a beef sausage with a tomato-curry sauce, which is sweet and tangy at the same time.

I replaced the beef sausage by veggie sausages from my local store, which are made out of tofu and seitan, but you can use any type of sausage you like or even swap it for anything else (tofu, bread or veggies). The sauce is really tasty with almost everything.

For 2 portions of the sauce you need:

  • 2 small onions
  • 3 tomatoes
  • 2tbs olive oil
  • 5tbs apple vinegar (75ml)
  • 1 apple
  • 2tbs curry powder
  • salt, pepper, paprika powder (to your taste)
  • (sausage of your choice)


Peel and chop the onions and cut the apple and tomatoes in cubes. Heat the olive oil in a pan and sweat the onions for about 2 minutes, then add tomatoes and apple, deglaze with apple vinegar add curry, salt, pepper, and paprika powder.

Cook until the liquid vaporizes, now blend with a hand blender.

Prepare your sausages according to the instruction, cut them into pieces and coat with the hot sauce. You can spread a little chili on top if you like it extra spicy.

One portion of the sauce, without the sausages, has the following nutritional values: 206kcal, 15g carbohydrates, 9g sugar, 14g fat, 3g protein and 3g fiber. Not too bad for fast food right?!
